Where is home?

I find it hard to fathom the thought of having one "home." "Where are you from?" is hard question for me to answer. I mean, I was born in Alberta and although I do not really like what Alberta has turned into, it still feels like home to me. When i lived in Alberta, I was in the mountains literally almost every weekend. I miss that more than anyone knows.

Norquay is my home simply because my family and friends are here. It is a good place to come back to. If it wasn't for me moving to Norquay, I would definitely be a different person. I have been blessed with great friends, and family. For this I am grateful.

Winnipeg has definitely treated me well. There seems to be a sense of beauty in the fact that there is dissonance when it comes to Winnipeg. Beauty in the imperfection.
Although different these places may be, they still hold a sense of home in my heart.

I still have a week left here in Norquay. Although I do not really feel like going back to the ol' prov hole right now, im sure I will soon.

Peace.

Bush League....

Tonight i had the privilege of watching a good friend of mine play a good game of rec hockey. Now, in Norquay our rink is known as the "polar dome," this is due to the ridicerous temperatures that this rink can reach. As a bystander, there are no heaters just carpets on the bleachers so you do not freeze your arse off.

The team comprised of friends from high school, some guys that were a few years older than me, but mostly just farmers. Now, in between periods i went inside to warm up. And as i did, one of the guys who plays on my friends team walks outside to his truck, and comes back with a case of "Pils" as it is commonly known as around here, or also known as "Pilsner." It's good to know that this town is still bush league. Right on.

It will be good....

It will be good to be at home again. As much as i trash talk the town of Norquay at times, it was a good place to grow up. But i think that is mostly due to my friends and family. It is a weird thing being with the same 5 or 6 guys all the time doing the most stupid things we could think of, to being in a whole new community of people.

Im looking forward to being able to drive like a jackass in Norquay once again, maybe get stuck a few times. It will be good. Im sure i will miss Winnipeg though, i have taken quite a liking to this city.

"This isn't Nam, there are rules!"

I find it funny playing intramural sports in college, or high school for that matter. There are always the people who play floor hockey who act like the Stanley Cup hinges on this one game. Then there is always the guy who slashes or high sticks and knows it and that does happen by accident to some extent but c'mon you know the rules, you just choose to argue with the Ref just for kicks just like in the NHL.

Anyways, that is my rant post. I don't have many.

The Ol' Jackson Hole.....

So for the last two weeks I have been pretty much living at Matt, Rob and Logans house. It is good to get away from the ol' prov hole. That place can be so empty and boring sometimes. But yet it can also be full of good times and good people.

My parents came to visit me this weekend which is always good. I think me being in college is harder on them than it is me. We watched the "Quantum of Solace" which i thought was awesome.

As this semester is coming to a close (4 weeks-ish) there is going to be more work and studying. But it will be great to be able to get back to the ol' Norquay hole to see my friends and family.

"On my little island of blessing in this vast ocean of pain, my 'thank you' always has the blues."

I just had Thanksgiving back home in Norquay. Good times were had. Lots of food, family and friends. It was good just to relax and do the things i used to. Share some fellowship at my church, eat at the Whistle Stop and just hang out with friends.
I always hate not doing my work ahead of time, i had a book to read and a 6 page paper on this book due this morning (Tuesday). Somehow, the saying "Git r'Done" kept me motivated until i finished the paper at about 3:00 a.m this morning. Good times.
I was going to try and incorporate that quote in my title into this whole blog, but i will save that for another day. Although, it is a sweet quote.

Today is the day......

Well, as i sit here drinking a kick ass cup of coffee, i contemplate the thought of today being the day i do laundry. It is risky business when i do laundry, anything can happen.

A Lucky Man....

Two or three days a week at prov, they have a chapel session. Each unique and different in their own ways. Today, we just sang an old hymn, had some prof's, r.a's, and just normal students tell a bit about themselves, their transition into Prov, and some things which they still struggle with. There was one girl who shared who is in her fourth year here. She spoke of how her faith has never really been her own, that it was either her friends, her church's, or her parents. She also struggled with not having a church which she could not call her own.

I consider myself a very blessed man to have a faith of my own, a great church family, and also great friendships here at Prov. A lucky man indeed.

Feeling Like Fall

With each day it gets closer to Monday, which of course is my moving day, it feels more and more like fall. The blackbirds have started to gather, the trout fishing has finally started getting better once again, and the nights have become calm and cool.

My dad and I Recently biked down this closed back road in Duck Mountain provincial park in Manitoba to find the "Pine River" to go trout fishing. As we started off down this back road, it was all down hill, pretty much the whole way. We caught lots of fish, probably close to 20 or so each. It was great to have a perfect day like that before i leave with my dad, just to be out in Gods creation. But considering it was all down hill on the way there, it was all up hill on the way back, it was rickdiculous.

So pray for me as i start packing my life into a car this week......

New Job....

For the last two weeks or so, i have been working part time at the local "grocery mart." Which is actually called "Robinson's Family Foods." Its not a bad gig, i work in the butchering/meat department, so theres lots of blood, guts and such. I ground up like 400 lb's of moose meat, it was stellar. I certainly have a different outlook on what the food i eat goes through.....

Tomorrow our youth group will be going camping at the Blue Lakes in Manitoba, it should be a good time. I haven't done any camping this year, so this better make up for it.

I seem to be getting more and more excited for Prov as the time gets closer. But with that, comes more nervousness, and the feeling of me, not knowing what im in for. Which is good in a way.

Sorry for this random post. I haven't had enough to say on one of these topics, so there ya go.

If there is one thing....

If there is one thing I am going to miss about living here in Norquay (the sticks) compared to living at Prov, is the night-time thunderstorms. It just won't be the same. Driving out on some dirt road, and watching the craziness of the weather. Or even the night-time starry sky.

Im sure it will be just as cool, just different. Maybe I will see all this in a completely different light.

First crack at it.....

Well, i figured it's time to start up a legitimate Blog up. Considering im moving to Providence and all, everyone seems to be doing it. And hell, if Rob Horsley can blog, then so can I.

Well i just got back from a week of camp at Covenant Heights Bible Camp in Clear Lake. It was a great week, full of friends, some family and just all around great people. It was great to spend time with people from Faith Covenant and everywhere else. I learned quite a bit this week, from many people. A good week indeed.

But i thought should tell the story of how i got stitches. There is always the annual walk to Wasagaping, Wasagajack, or Wasagaming, whatever its called. And i almost always do this, as a tradition. But you know that part where you have Clear Lake on the left side of you on the path, and then that other "lake" on the right side of you? Well, this is where the path got washed away, but we decided to cross anyways. At first Sean was gonna carry me on his back, but he sunk deep into the mud, so i just decided to suck it up, and walk across. As i did this i cut the top of my left foot open on a rock, or piece of glass, im not sure. I didn't even really feel it happen, but when i got out of the water, it started bleeding pretty bad and such. So i told Nadine that i thought i needed some stitches, i thought she was gonna pass out, but she did good. So they switched off carrying me to Wasagajack and Shauna picked me up. I ended up having to go to Minnedosa for stitches. Which wasn't as bad as i thought it was gonna be, the nurse was quite good looking.

So all in all, a good week.
